A Review of Sundots: Sun Protection In a Daily Gummy

A Reveiw of Sundots.png

It seems a little weird to be thinking about sun protection on a day like today…

Nevertheless, soon I will once again be slathering sunscreen on my littles and using bribery, threats and God-only-knows what else to get them to take the proper precautions to guard against sun damage. I don’t remember having to go through this torture as a kid. I DO, however, remember peeling sunburns and Aloe Vera gel. And now, as an adult, you better believe I’m having moles checked and remembering to take  measures to protect myself and my kids from UV damage.

I’ll be honest, though, it’s a little frustrating and immobilizing to read conflicting thoughts regarding sun protection. I’m left with a few big questions:

1. How bad are the chemicals in the commercial sunscreen I sometimes use?

2. Does sunscreen interfere with my ability to receive Vitamin D?

3. What is the best way for me to make sure my family is getting the protection they need while still receiving adequate vitamin D?

I’ve tried making my own sunscreen using this recipe from wellness mama.

I’ve used paraben-free versions of sunscreen such as this one from Alba.

I have, at times, resorted to employing the spray-on stuff that is filled with chemicals (such as oxybenzone) just to get the job done.

I’ve also sometimes forgotten sunscreen, done a less-than-thorough application job, and relied too much on UPF-approved clothing. Turns out I’m not the only one.

Enter Sundots: Sun Protection in a Daily Gummy.

This might just be the answer I’ve been needing. Granted, it’s not going to get me out of applying sunscreen and it’s not going to eliminate the need for UPF-approved clothing. However, it is going to fill in the gaps and offer protection where those fall short. And there seems to be some rigorous science behind this new form of sun protection. The incredibly comprehensive FAQ section on Sundots’ Indiegogo page, leaves nothing to be desired. I’m backing this campaign and can’t wait to get my first shipment!

What form(s) of sun protection do you use? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!
